Esplora Interactive Science Centre
DTR were appointed as the lead project architects for the Esplora Interactive Science Center. Our responsibilities encompassed the comprehensive design, meticulous procurement, and seamless execution of the entire project. This includes not only the Science Center itself but also the adjoining state-of-the-art planetarium and the expansive coastal promenade.
The Esplora Interactive Science Center stands as a beacon of innovation and education, offering visitors an engaging and immersive experience. Our design approach focused on creating a space that fosters curiosity and learning, incorporating cutting-edge technology and interactive exhibits.
Adjacent to the Science Center, the planetarium invites visitors to explore the wonders of the cosmos through high-definition displays and captivating presentations. This facility was carefully integrated into the overall design to provide a cohesive and enriching visitor experience.
The coastal promenade, an integral part of the project, offers a picturesque and inviting public space, enhancing the local community and providing a stunning backdrop to the Science Center and planetarium.

Bridge extension for San Ġorg Preca College
Completed in late 2020, the project was carried out to join the two wings of the school at first and second floor to facilitate flow within the school. A walkway overlooking the school grounds connects the first floor, while a lightweight footbridge connects the second floor.
DTR was responsible for the whole project from conception to execution.
MUŻA – National Community Art Museum
MUZA represents a museum concept designed to inspire and interact with visitors while serving as a dynamic cultural venue. The museum aims to reach all observers, even casual ones, by allowing people to enter through open entrances and blurring the boundary between the exhibits and the public. Unlike traditional museums, this cultural space seeks to create an environment of surprising engagement. MUZA is about removing social class distinctions and using existing spaces to display artwork.
Housed in the historic Auberge d’Italie, one of the first buildings facing Pjazza de Vallette, the MUZA space has a multifaceted history. Over centuries, this building has served multiple roles, including an auberge, government and military headquarters, artist’s studio, residence, museum, law courts, and post office. Reconceived in 2018, MUZA integrates retail, gallery, and public spaces, creating a seamless connection with the Valletta landscape through its inviting courtyard.
MUZA’s conservation philosophy is central to its design, retaining all historical evidence and indiscriminately exposing hidden layers. Copper alloy elements act as an additional skin to the building, evoking structures and features that have been lost. The site was built over 400 years ago with globigerina limestone, and it features natural cross-ventilation and a central courtyard, maintaining a low carbon footprint. This legacy is extended with the addition of state-of-the-art technology to ensure efficient HVAC systems and lighting suitable for preserving artworks. As the first Grade 1 scheduled building with a zero net carbon footprint, MUZA stands as a testament to sustainability and heritage preservation, demonstrating a commitment to both environmental responsibility and the celebration of Malta’s rich cultural history.
The museum’s ground floor is designed for wandering and individual exploration, making art accessible to all. The ethos behind MUZA is to reach out to casual observers and removing social barriers. Its café, restaurant, and sunny courtyard invite people in, encouraging them to explore, slow down, and discover.
Tal-Kus Civic Amenity Site
Located within the serene landscape of Gozo, this multimaterial recovery facility is designed to harmonize with its natural surroundings while addressing modern waste management needs. The architecture seamlessly integrates into the terrain, minimizing visual impact and enhancing the environmental narrative. Using a blend of contemporary materials and traditional forms, the design emphasizes sustainability through efficient spatial organization, natural ventilation, and energy optimization. The facility serves as a functional yet aesthetically respectful addition to the landscape, promoting responsible resource management within the local community.
